6th Annual It's Just Yoga Health and Fitness Festival

Yogis swarmed Lake Eola on Sunday at the 6th Annual Health and Fitness Festival in Orlando, FL. The festival was free and open to all ages, shapes, sizes and no experience was required to attend. There was live music, over 50 health and wellness vendors, live yoga classes and demonstrations. There were yoga classes for beginners, yoga classes for weight loss and stress reduction, acro yoga, aerial yoga and children’s yoga. All classes were based on donation and all proceeds went to New Hope for Kids, an organization dedicated to helping Central Florida children in need. Their goal is to bring hope, healing and happiness to families who are grieving the loss of a child or dealing with a child that has a life-threatening illness.

The purpose of the event was to encourage the community to get involved in yoga as a means of physical and mental relief. “I absolutely love it here. Even if this festival wasn’t going on, I’d still probably be here. My husband and I started doing yoga about seven years ago and we’ve never looked back. Some people go out for drinks, some go for a drive, others go out to eat—but not me. Yoga is my go-to stress reliever whenever I’m feeling down. I’m always open to new ideas so I’m excited to see what the day brings,” said Gina, a yoga and gymnastics coach for girls ages 5-9.

According to Science of Yoga, a book published by Ann Swanson, yoga can help lower your blood pressure, decrease inflammation and prevent age-related brain changes. Some other benefits of yoga include the building of muscle strength and reduced muscle tension, controlled breathing patterns, better bone health and increased flexibility. It's Just Yoga has been producing large-scale festivals for the last 20 years, so even though this years' Its Just Yoga Health and Fitness Festival is over, it'll return next year—same mat, same place.
