The Central Florida Fair comes to Orlando; will be gifting scholarships to three graduating seniors

Updated: Mar 3, 2020

The 108thannual Central Florida Fair returns to Orlando from dates Feb. 27-March 8, with a variety of activities to partake in each day. Held at the Central Florida Fairgrounds, locals can expect live music, entertainment, food, games, culinary competitions and of course, a few rides that are certain to make your head spin. This year, the fair is also giving away three $2500 scholarships to graduating seniors, known as the Central Florida Fair Youth Scholarship.

The Board of Directors of the Central Florida Fair will award three high school seniors a scholarship based on their application, an original essay, participation in events at the Central Florida Fair and any other extra-curricular activities. There are no GPA requirements for the scholarship. According to the centralfloridafair.com, the purpose of the scholarship is to encourage young people to pursue a college education, who otherwise may not have had the resources to do so. The application is open to all seniors residing in Orange, Osceola, Lake, Brevard, Seminole or Volusia County. The scholarships will be presented on the last day of the fair, during one of the official activities hosted by the Board of Directors.

“I found out through a co-worker that they were giving away scholarships. I had no idea I wish I would’ve known sooner my niece Sarah almost missed out. But it’s still a super generous thing that they’re doing. Regardless if she gets picked or not, we’re still grateful for the opportunity because now we’re applying for a bunch of other scholarships we knew nothing about. So this really just opened our eyes to all that’s out there,” said Sidney Jacques, the aunt of an applicant. According to The Complete Idiots Guide to Paying for Collegehundreds of parents struggle each year to send their kids to college due to lack of financial aid, grants and scholarships.

Admission does vary based on the day you attend the fair. Kids ages five and under are free, kids ages six to 11 start at $7 and adult admission starts at $12. For more information on events or the scholarship, visit centralfloridafair.com or call 407-295-3247.
